The Wildlife Institute of India has proposed to set up a captive breeding centre to protect the Great Indian Bustard, the State bird of Rajasthan from extinction.

The matter was taken up by WII with Rajasthan Chief Minister VasundharaRaje, an official spokesman said.

A white python has been found near Mangaluru. Experts of Pilikula Biological Park who rescued it from Kuppepadavu, near Yedapadavu, in Mangaluru taluk, on February 18 have kept it under quarantine.

The Madhya Pradesh government wants cameras installed in tigers’ dens so that tourists can have a closer look at the life of the big cat in the wild.

The move is a part of its efforts to promote tourism through participation of private sector in wildlife conservation in forest areas outside national parks and sanctuaries

BEJING: Authorities in Beijing plan to develop a network of ventilation "corridors" to help tackle the city's notorious air pollution, news agency Xinhua reported on Sunday.

Construction in the zones, which will be created by connecting parks, rivers, lakes, highways and low building blocks, will be strictly controlled and obstacles to air flow will be removed over time, Xinhua cited Wang Fei, deputy head of Beijing's urban
planning committee, as saying.

The only Bird Conservation Reserve lake of Bengaluru is being polluted by unchecked sewage.

Puttenahalli lake in Yelahanka was declared a Bird Conservation Reserve on June 5, 2014, under Schedules 1 and 2, Section 36- A of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. But government departments seem to have little concern and the tag remains only on paper
as around 5-8 MLD of untreated sewage water enters the lake everyday.
