Manas (previously known as North Kamrup) was declared a sanctuary
on October 01, 1928. It was designated a World Heritage site in December
1985. It extends into the foothills of Bhutan where it is called the Royal
Manas National Park. It
has the largest population of tigers among Indian reserves. Manas is also
the primary habitat of the rare golden langur.Its wetlands are of international
importance. It is also the single most important site for the future survival
of pygmy hog and hispid hare.
