ESSENTIAL OILS
Essential oils are one of the greatest untapped resources
of the world. The extra ordinary versatility of natures
essential oils is made possible by the fact that they
come in a most convenient form. They can be applied
through the skin in massage oils or by osmosis in
the bath or by inhalation in a variety of methods.
Essential oils work cosmetically and as anti ageing
agents in several ways. Skin which has been treated
with essential oils thus become more dynamic and stronger.
Essential oils can prevent the congestion of toxins
and expedite the elimination of toxic debris by improving
the lymphatic flow and general condition of the lymph
glands. They improve circulation which aides oxygenation
and energizes the dermis (top layer of the skin) by
the rate nutrients are fed to it.
Ingredients
3 Ozs lavender water
1 Drop lavender
1 Drop juniper
Put all the ingredients in a bottle and shake well.
Leave for 24 hours, then pass through a paper coffee
filter. Cotton wool balls can be soaked in this prepared
tonic and put in a tightly sealed box with another
teaspoon of tonic passed over them. This makes your
own cleansing pad ready for use.
OIL BASED CLEANSERS
The nice thing about making your own cleansers is that you can adjust them to
suit your own skin type, and change them as your skin changes with the seasons.
When we cleanse our face according to its seasonal requirements we have a skin
that always looks good and ages more slowly. All vegetable and nut oils can
be used for cleansing as well as for nourishing the skin. The ancient Romans
massage oils into the skin and then scrape them off along with the dirt. Use
any heavy oil for dry skin such as avocado or wheat germ and light oils such
as almond or sunflower for oily skins. The essential oils of clary sage, lemon,
lime, sage or thyme are cleansing and suitable for all skin types. Other good
options will be rosemary, chamomile lavender or geranium.

FACIAL MASSAGE
At least once a week, a deep cleansing routine is a
must for a clear complexion. We have seen various
types of cleansers which can be used depending on
the skin type.
The next step to cleansing is a good facial massage
which can be done with the help of a good cold cream
or massage oil. Facial massage revives and conditions
your skin. It improves blood circulation and erases
every tension present in the facial muscles.
A massage is necessary for all skin types. Massage
done with the right technique, helps to tone and firm
up the sagging muscles. When applying cream use both
your hands and stroke gently working your way from
throat to chin, to ears, brows to temples and eye area.
Start from the outer corner of the eye, move towards
the tear duct and move on to upper eyelids. Remove
cream using the same technique.
There are oil based as well as moisturizing nourishing
creams. Creams, lotions, skin foods, vitaminized creams
and anti-wrinkle creams are all nourishing preparations
used for various skin types.

EFFECTIVE SUBSTITUTE FOR COLD CREAM
Equal parts of lemon
juice and glycerin is an excellent cold cream substitute
that may be used at bed time.
STEAM FACIAL
After a deep cleansing routine and a good facial massage,
the next step to skin care is steaming. Steaming
dilates the pores and deep cleans by bringing to
the surface all the hidden grease and dirt. It also
brings a glow on your face but should be avoided
in the case of a sensitive skin. Steaming can be
done with the use of an electric steamer or, alternatively,
a basin filled with steaming hot water. You may add
herbs/flowers to the hot water. Cover your head with
a towel to trap the steam and breathe in the vapours.
The aroma of the herbs will stimulate a soothing
and relaxed feeling. Once the pores are dilated,
wipe the face with a tissue or damp towel. Remove
blackheads using a blackhead remover and sterilized
cotton wool. Thereafter, apply a face towel dipped
and rinsed in ice cold water. Leave on the face for
5 to 10 minutes and apply a good face pack.
