Rajkot one of 40 global cities to cut carbon emissions (December Week #3 (2014))
AHMEDABAD/RAJKOT: Gujarat's 'solar city — Rajkot in Saurashtra — is being globally recognized as a case study for reducing carbon emissions. As per report by World Resources Institute (WRI), a US-based organization, presented at the UN Climate Change Conference
in Peru, Rajkot will be able to reduce 14 per cent cent of its carbon dioxide emissions by 2016.

lakh solar pumps to be installed in a year's time: Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis (December Week #3 (2014))
Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, on Tuesday, stated in Nagpur that five lakh solar pumps would be installed in the state in the next one year for agricultural purposes. Fadnavis who stated that mere relief measures weren't a lasting solution to the drought
situation in the state, said he was looking at lasting solutions instead of knee jerk reactions when faced with problems. As per sources in MSEDCL, Maharashtra at present has 36 lakh agricultural pumps in use.

Asiatic lions in Gir facing threat from poachers: Govt (December Week #3 (2014))
Asiatic lions in Gujarat's Gir forests are facing threat from poachers, government today said quoting a study by a wildlife monitoring agency.

Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar also informed Rajya Sabha that "there is a persistent challenge" for conservation of leopards in view of high ongoing seizure rate averaging 3.5 cases of seizures related to leopard per month since 2000.
